THE ALL NEW PIANOSD.COM

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

With our ever increasing need for music education and enlightenment I realized several months ago that I had a gem in the PianoSD.com website.   I have the understanding and knowledge to make a difference .  I sat down and spoke with Max Morgan our Web Designer about the possibilities and what I wanted to create.  It has taken shape and we finally have a product started that I believe will increase the public’s awareness of the need for making  music in their homes, schools, churches, etc.

I have long been an advocate of the teaching community.  In our store in San Diego I spent most of my time working with students and teachers on ways to help make the community at large have a greater appreciation of music makers.  Whether its on a washtub or a concert grand, music does change people’s daily outlook.

That’s why PianoSD.com (short for Piano Social Directory) was created.  When you go to the website you will be asked to put in your information and “join” Piano Social Directory.  If you are a piano teacher or piano tuner, if you are a manufacturer you have the option of simply adding in your information into our data base so anyone who is looking for your service can easily find you.

If you are simply a fan or enthusiast you can also sign up to receive emails about events, products or happenings in and around your area.  Sign up but please do NOT choose one of the blocks if you don’t fit into that category.  We will capture your name and information and as we progress we will be keeping you up to date on the latest.

Finally we will be adding a couple of new spots for piano artists to join to promote your talents and get creative suggestions from us on how to increase your image and public awareness.

I am very excited about what’s going on and hope that you will feel free to join our site and participate in the many changes that are taking place at the all new Piano Social Directory at http://PianoSD.com

NAMM 2012 Highlights

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

NAMM 2012 is almost over.

I spent two days at NAMM in Anaheim.  It is the most exciting and exhilarating trade show that I have ever been a part of.  So here are some of my thoughts.

First Wednesday night Max from http://MaxMorganDesigns.com started the completion of www.pianosd.com. I spoke with him last at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday night.  Then 6:00 a.m. he was still working. BUT its almost completed.  If you go to www.pianosd.com you will see the changes, I am VERY EXCITED.

I saw so many friends and people that I have known for many years and made several new friends.  It was very nice to renew old acquaintances.  The piano selection was down this year for various reasons HOWEVER, Brodmann’s latest AS 275 was incredible.  I mean, yes we do business with them but it was unbelievable how nice the piano sounded and the way it felt.

I had the opportunity to play on a Sauter Concert Grand too.  As many of you know Sauter is one of my favorites and I was not disappointed  at all. The sound was absolutely incredible and the look and feel of the piano as well as the incredible.

There were some amazing piano teaching programs along with education materials, etc.  There was every music instrument that you could think of  and then some.  As we begin to make our changes and improvements we will be doing some new things.  I cant wait to show you some new things.

I attended the Yamaha Breakfast on Friday morning and was completely blown away by the new product lines they have and some very cool programs for the dealers, sellers and customers at http://yamaha.com

I will give you more as we move around some.

The Past Month

Monday, August 8th, 2011

The past month I have been out of touch for the blog.  We have been making many changes, one of which is going to be released by the end of the month.

I have long been concerned about the fact that shopping for pianos can be rather difficult when you are not sure what you are doing.  You’re not sure if there are questions that should be asked, if you are asking the wrong questions, the right questions, or if there is something thatis missing.

I have watched many customers that are not sure what to ask, get in a lot of trouble because they forgot the right questions or asked all together the wrong questions.  Searching for a piano can be exhausting to the person who knows nothing at all.

Searching for a teacher, tuner, technician, artist or any other thing in the piano business can be difficult at times.  In the age that we live in it is usually about electronic gadgets or cars that are all over blogs but, finding piano information can be challenging at very best.

Next month PianoSD is planning on a complete overhaul that will hopefully take the guess work out of buying a piano anywhere in the U.S.  finding a teacher in Los Angeles, or a tuner in San Francisco, perhaps you need to know more information about pianos in Sacramento I hope to help put the end of quess work for you.

As we move forward I would like to tell you how excited I am to now be handling all of the social media and internet marketing for Brodmann pianos in the U.S.  We have been talking about this for about 7 months and finally landed the contract in July.  As you know I am managing the Piano Outlet in Nipomo, Ca.  We are a part of a much larger branch in Oxnard.  i have been so happy with the area and what it has to offer. So if you are up in the San Luis Obis

I just heard these guys – WOW

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

Last night in a long conversation with a hip-hop artist named Stephen Johnson, I was asked what must someone do to become the very best.  My response was rehearse.  Rehearsal time is the most important thing in the world to an artist of any genre.  The more you are committed the more places you will go.  The more you perfect your craft and hone your skills the more likely you are to fall into exceptional places and opportunities.

Have you ever noticed when a true professional is introduced how they dont hang there head in shame or become very quiet and withdrawn but, walk on stage very proud, with their head up and a smile on thier face and a presence that lets the audience know that they know what they are doing and they are aware of their surroundings and are prepared for what they are about to do.  That makes the difference.

I often review new talent and give suggestions and once worked in some of the studios in and around Nashville with artists who were preparing for a recording or performance.  You could always tell who was prepared and who was rehearsed and ready.

This is the case with this group from Italy.  Take a few minutes to sit back and notice the excitement of 3 well prepared young men and where they come from and where you may think they are going.

Incredible IL-VOLO

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did.

Maxwell Steer

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Some of you may remember Maxwell Steer who visited us at PianoSD last year for a teacher workshop and played for us and spoke to us about teaching in the U.K.

I have kept in contact with Maxwell and was delighted to find out that he had put on YouTube a performance with Richard Black.  I felt you would be thrilled to hear this wonderful performance and decided to post this for you to see.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have

George Gershwin still alive and coming to San Diego?

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

One of the bad things about writing the multiple blogs and press releases, etc. is that I don’t ALWAYS get a chance to completely digest the multiple requests that I get to review a new project or program that is presented to me whether I get it in email or “snail” mail or whatever the case is.

Recently, I was asked to take a look at a play that was coming to San Diego and perhaps do my part to promote it if possible.  I made my normal post on Social Medias, etc. but, did not take it any farther until this morning when I had a follow up email about this performance that will take place in San Diego in July.

I stopped what I was doing and took the time to do a little “on-line” research and was pleasantly surprised NO- actually blown away at what I found.

First I visited the website here:

http://www.gershwinalone.com/home/Home02.html

I couldnt believe my ears.  Its like he has returned to life.  Then I went to You Tube (of course)

Look whos coming to San Diego

And now I see what all of the hubub was about.  Mr. Felders ability to draw you into the event, make you a part of it and then allow you to see George through his eyes is an incredible feat.  I have read all of the review now and his wikipedia information.

This program is a must see.  And here’s how.  The Old Globe was kind enough to offer the following to the people that I was able to attract for them.  I hope you will take advantage of it.  It is sure to be an unforgettable evening.

We would like to offer *20% off of Area A seating. Tickets begin at just $39! Visit www.TheOldGlobe.org and select Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone.

Choose from performances July 1st through July 3rd and enter Promo Code: PianoSD or you can call the Box Office at (619) 234-5623.

Exciting New Album – Sharon Dubois

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

I  was so proud to get an update from my friend in San Diego who has introduced a new album.   Last year Sharon Dubois did a Monday night performance in our store, PianoSD on Live at PianoSD you can see here. You Keep Coming Back to Me

As I listened to the tracks of her new project I was completely surprised by what I heard.  She did a great job on each song.  The project “Here I Am” is the second of her projects and this is a very impressive improvement both in delivery but in the musicality of each cut.

The project starts with “All Wrapped Up In You” which is a very spirited rendition with great arrangement.

The second song “You Keep Coming Back To Me” was the song she performed on Live at PianoSD.  I was even more impressed by her recording than I was the first night I heard it.  The ease of her performance is what impresses me the most.  The phrasing she delivers is as if she is sitting in the room telling you a story.

“Confess” is one of the coolest on the project.  Although, I have to confess that Sharon has bought some of my favorite musicians together on this cut.  Daniel Jackson is one of my very favorite people and musicians in San Diego and beyond.  He is the coolest of the cool and I always enjoyed Daniel both as a friend and as a musician.  Gilbert Castellanos is one of the finest musicians in Southern California and always delivers a great performance.  His reputation as a musician is only overshadowed by his reputation as a gentleman.  I am not as  familiar with Stephen McKinney or John Staten except by thier music and exemplary artistry on this project however, Josh White is one of the very finest, all around jazz pianists I know (and I know a lot of pianist).  Josh’s ability to bring you into a song is second to none and has some of the most impressive phrased voices in the business.

With all of this talent combined it would be hard to have turned out a bad cut.  The sexiest song on the album is the album title “Here I Am”.  Although Sharon undoubtedly did not intend this trac to be considered the “sexiest”, her voice is almost haunting as she delivers her message in this song.  I was captivated from the first bar and drawn into a “sit down and listen” position. Very impressive.

It is so nice to see and hear talents like Sharon’s and to know each of these talents have the ability to put themselves into a situation that people like me will be able to say “I knew them when”.  Being from Nashville, Tn., I have heard some of the finest talent in the country and I can tell you without a second thought that Sharon is able to “hold her own” with any of them.

Congratulations on a job well done! You can find her information, album and sample cuts at http://SharonDubois.com . Take the time to go to her site, listen and pre-order
